Minimalism

ree

Around us, in our social medias, the world is giving us an illusion about how your life should be, encouraging you the buy the latest iphone, the latest car, convincing you that this purchase  will give you happiness, and fulfillness, that it will fill the void you feel and it will make you feel complete.

Advertising is everywhere, in our movies, TV shows, books, radio, pushing us to believe you need another house, they manipulate us psychologically to buy more unnecessary stuff, and they will gain more money. Before anyone gets to Minimalism, they have a lot of things  that they brought into their life without any purpose, then they let go of anything that doesn't bring joy into their life.

The documentary Minimalism on Netflix is about Joshua and his best friend Ron who had discovered minimalism, and created a website called The minimalists, trying to show people how minimalism helped them get rid of their miserability and bring happiness to their lives. They went on a 10 month tour bringing only 2 backpacks, to help humanity, they have also written a book helping people live a pleasant life. The documentary tells people's experiences who changed from living in a 110 square meters to 40 square meters, it has eased their mind because since they have a smaller place, they have less depts, less things to buy and they don't have to worry about money.

quotes :

“Understand, every moth is drawn to light, even when that light is a flame, hot and burning, flickering, the fire tantalizing the drab creature with its blueish-white illumination.  But when the moth flies too close to the flame, we all know what happens: it gets burned, incinerated by the very thing that drew it near.  For decades now, I have played the role of the moth, lured by the flame of consumerism, pop culture’s beautiful conflagration, a firestorm of lust and greed and wanting, a haunting desire to consume that which cannot be consumed, to be fulfilled by that which can never be fulfilling.  A vacant proposition, leaving me empty inside, which further fuels my desire to consume.  Accepting the flame for what it is, then, is important: it is necessary and beautiful and, most of all, dangerous.  Realizing this, becoming aware of the danger, is difficult to do.  But this is how we wake up.” ~ The Minimalists
Nothing is more responsible than living in the smallest place possible.
